ABOUT SHANA DANON:

Hello, I’m Shana - the artist and surface designer behind Emilio Frank Design. All paintings, prints and patterns are created in my Bondi studio.

My artworks are intended to create happy, positive spaces and evoke joyful memories. Known for their bold emotive colour and vibrant modernist style, they are inspired by my passion for Mid Century modernism.

Signature line-works x bold organic geometric abstracts celebrate form, function and whimsy, referencing the past with a contemporary twist. Lunar themes, nature and local Sydney feature in my collections.

INFLUENCES:

Growing up in a family of artists nurtured me to become a maker and work with colour across a variety of media including acrylic paint, digital brushes, ink, collage, screen printing, water-colour and block printing.

Emilio Frank Design is named in honour of my creative grandparents.

They took pride in their skills and hand-made work, creating quality items with care. Emil was a timber merchant who built many houses including his own, Fritzi a keen gardener of luscious blooms and vegetables. Frank was a talented oil painter, Rachel a professional seamstress. Many hours were spent watching her sew, crochet and knit. I was fascinated by the vibrant rolls of fabric, the whirr of her iconic pedal Singer sewing machine, the never-ending bucket of buttons in all shapes and sizes. My mother Annie is a fibre artist + painter who influenced my passion for abstract art and modernism.

In my spare time you’ll find me photographing local beaches and landscapes, enjoying gallery exhibitions or browsing through antique stores, strong coffee in hand!.

DACHSHUNDS + DESIGN:

A family love of dachshunds inherited from my Viennese grandmother inspired a range of ‘Schnitzel the dachshund’ homewares and stationery. We were thrilled to have our own studio assistant puppy ‘Pretzel’ join our team in June 2018.

CAREER:

An extensive career in professional organising, decluttering & styling cultivated my love for interiors and the home. Educating clients on sustainability, mindful purchasing, repurposing, repairing and recycling were the foundations on establishing Emilio Frank Design in 2015. My purpose is to bring form, function and positivity to every space with long lasting, hand made, small batch, vibrant quality collections.

ETHICS:

The studio endeavours to create products that are ethically made using sustainable materials. I enjoy collaborating with local businesses and support global makers with a like minded vision.
